Also, this is why the US refused to leave troops in Iraq without complete immunity from Iraqi law.

And this is a good example why Iraq was right not to renew that immunity. The people of Iraq are reportedly furious and demand it not be renewed.

While I think leaving behind some trainers & advisers would have benefited the IA, we were ready to leave and they wanted us out. Win win, mission accomplished, rah rah rah, whatever.

What are you talking about?
This doesn't apply here, unless your are advocating that the rest of the world gang up together and bomb the shit out of the US to rob its natural resources.

Why would they spend the money to come over here when they can kill our forces more locally?

It will be a lot less difficult to plant roadside bombs than to try to come over here and hang out in Miami for 3-5 years before flying a plane into the side of a building.......

Thanks wolfe for finding out more details. The OP was shady and loose on details at best. Which is what I WAS TRYING TO POINT out in the first place. I gave other reasons for the possible outcome given to these marines based on the very sketchy info given originally. Craig was being an obtuse bastard immediately over me just saying, hold the phone there could be any number of valid reasons why it turned out this way.

So basically we have marines saying they did one thing. Iraq people we were at war stating another thing. We have some marginal forensic evidence that sides with the marines over the Iraqis. In war there are going to be civilian casualties. It's going to happen. All that can be done is to minimize the amount. However, many people get bent out of shape and don't realize certain things can change your status from civilian to target in a warzone. The moment you pick up a fire arm you have just changed your status unless you are wearing certain bright emblems/colors to designate what you may really be (such as a medic).

One has to also look at the OP in threads like this to determine what has ben ignored/twisted.

Cherry picking in articles to choose from or details within the articles to present one side can be a standard MO

I was going on what was presented.

On the basis that it had little to do with my life, I expressed my opinion on the information presented, not the actual event...

Valid points, but it's a frustrating situation to have such a hard time with accountability.

Thank you for the acknowledgment. It is frustrating but if the Marine's where acting within the stated ROE then the people creating the ROE's needed to be held accountable. That wasn't happening so it was probably the best outcome we could see. Overall Urban combat is a nasty situation and mix in a enemy that dresses as the civilians and this type of stuff is going to happen.

IMHO, the war should have never happened, but once we are fighting, these kind of things are a big deal but not at all punishable. these are young immature soldiers who are put under extraordinary circumstances, its not their fault is the loose it. Its a cost of war, if you fight shit will happen, deal with it. People how expect a clean war are morons.

We expect our military to act honorably.

This sort of sentence is the government sanctioning the slaughter of innocent civilians. The men involved should be dead, the men commanding them discharged, and the country should think twice about another war.

Maybe it has something to do with the wide spread abuses by our armed forces overseas and the laughable responses to it from the military?

Nothing that I've read about this incident showed any proof that they were indeed under fire when they assaulted the houses. Not to mention killing the 4 men in the taxi.

maybe just maybe the military has access to more info on this incident than you do.

Wide spread - Not close
Some abuses - Yes - such happens within any military force (US/forigen, overseas or domestic) - people think that the rules do not need to belong to them

Military does investigate and punish -Abu Ghraib did not get off scott free. They may or seem to be slow and reluctant because of the overall impact w/ respect to the troops, politics and ROE.
