Marijuana & Parkinson's disease

My grandad has Parkinson's Disease. He can't take meds for it because he has other more serious problems he has to take meds for that would interact with the PD meds. Should I bake him some magic brownies? Anyone have any current info or experience with bud & PD? I searched on google but most of the stuff I found was over a year old and/ or not really conclusive.

I am sorry to hear about your Grandpa. Parkinson's is VERY serious. My Dad is laying on his deathbed as we speak. Can't move. Can't speak. Can barely open his eyes and turn his head...he has no idea who his wife and two kids are. God should stop this madness and TAKE my father already. He's been a vegetable for almost two years now.

I say anything you can do to ease your Grandfather's pain is OK. However, I'd ask him first...we both know a little weed in the brownies won't hurt him, but if (after eating the whole pan) he says "I feel funny..kinda giggly!" and you tell him what you did w/o his approval/knowing, he may be very mad at you.

Good luck to him and you. :)

I watched my grandpa die of Parkinson's. It's a terrible disease and I'm deeply sorry that you have to go through it.
I don't know if marijuana will ease his pain or not, honestly (although I have seen its positive effects firsthand with cancer). My only advice is to study up on it and (especially) to ask for your grandfather's consent (and accept his decision as final).
Good luck and God bless.

Thanks guys. The whole family was over at his house today moving furniture around and out of the way & deciding where & when to get him a lift chair, wheel chair, new bed, etc. He's old and stubborn and I know he'd never agree to trying pot just because it's pot. It really frustrates me seeing him like this and and not having anything that will help. Even if the pot would just put him in a better mood and help his appetite it would be a improvement. But I'm reluctant to sneak it into him. It pisses me off to no end that I'd have to do that & take a chance of him getting mad or having some sort of reaction.

you should ask a doctor about that... i wouldn't risk interaction with other drugs.

I watched my dad fade through fourteen years of parkinson's, and I would have done anything to help him. I am also very strongly in favor of legalizing marijuana for anyone with a medical condition where it has been proven to help, such as cancer, AIDS, etc.

I searched Google for "marijuana and parkinson's". Ignoring the blatant anti-drug propoganda links, the remaining links still suggest that marijuana will not help parkinson's patients, and it may do some harm.

My heart is with you, but I think you need to do better research than a poll of this forum before you try this.

Ditto. I'd also suggest discussing this with the family.

I probably won't try spiking his brownies or anything. But it's frustrating that my two choices are to not try anything and watch him get worse or take a chance making him worse by trying to help, all while breaking the law. I can't understand why we are able to split the atom and send a man to the moon and not able to cure these damn diseases. On the bright side the family went back over there today and he seemed to be having a good day and was in a good mood. We got him a lift chair so he can get up & down without the embarassment of someone having to help him every time.

good luck to you and your family regardless of what you decide. It certainly can't be easy.
