Gavel to Gavel coverage of historic America Health Care reform

http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/2...kaW9uX21vc3RfcG9wdWxhcgRzbGsDdGVhcGFydHlwcm90

Tea party protesters use racial epithet against Georgia's John Lewis

Demonstrators outside the U.S. Capitol , angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted "great person" Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis , a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.

Protestors also used a slur as they confronted Rep. Barney Frank , D- Mass. , an openly gay member of Congress . A writer for Huffington Post said the crowd called Frank a "lovely human."
Frank told the Boston Globe that the incident happened as he was walking from the Longworth office building to the Rayburn office building, both a short distance from the Capitol. Frank said the crowd consisted of a couple of hundred of people and that they referred to him as 'homo.'

House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D- S.C. , said Saturday's ugliness underscored for him that the health care overhaul isn't the only motivation for many protesters.
"I heard people saying things today I've not heard since March 15th, 1960 , when I was marching to try and get off the back of the bus," Clyburn said. "This is incredible, shocking to me."
He added, "A lot of us have said for a long time that none of this is about healthcare at all. It's about extending a basic fundamental right to people who are less powerful."

What time is the vote?

Dems predict historic House vote on health care

House Democrats are predicting that a rare Sunday session will produce one of the most significant legislative triumphs in decades: passage of a historic bill to overhaul the nation's health care system to provide coverage to millions of people who currently lack it.

It's clear from this day forward things are only going to get uglier in the America.

It goes a lot deeper than just Republican Vs Democrat.

It only remains to be seen how bad this rift will get.

BS.
There were many video cameras there and yet somehow no one has ANY audio or video of anyone using the evil, most hated word in the English language.
They are desperate to take over health care and will use any means to try to get it passed.

Problem: 50M Americans have no insurance.
Solution: Force them to buy it
Claim: We just overhauled healthcare and gave insurance to millions without it!

Since you wouldn't mind if the US turns into the North American Somalia (as quoted here), the bolded comment must make you warm inside and all giddy.

There is a tangible, and probably rather large, element of racism and bigotry in the opposition to everything Obama is politically associated with. I've maintained this for a while, it's pretty damn obvious to me. And not only from what I see in the news, but from what I see and hear with my own eyes and ears. I can't say how many times I've heard something to the effect of "them blacks are taking over" and last week I heard "that damn great person in the White House" in my grocery store parking lot. Maybe you folks that deny racism is fueling any of this opposition should look a little less at those you politically oppose and a little more at some of the folks on your own side.

It's far beyond being sore losers.

Can imagine how much Republicans will become unglued in just a short time today after the vote.

I'm not sure they are going to be on the losing side of the vote yet.

My hope is this goes through, it gets polished up properly in reconciliation, the folks in such adamant opposition to it come to realize it actually benefits them, and it creates distrust with those who were so vocal in demonizing its supporters. But maybe I am hoping for too much.

It won't get 'polished up' until there is a self-funded single-payer public option.

edit: btw .... Micheal Steele on MTP this AM admitted that "a half-dozen or so" folks got "worked up in the debate" and went too far with the "slurs".

Well I can tell you from someone in the NY metro area, racism has NOTHING to do with it. In fact I can honestly say I have not heard 1 person randomly on a train, in a store, walking by, or otherwise since Obama's been in office use the 'N' word in describing their frustration with this administration. Most often, it is about spending too much of our money and govt getting bigger.

And that's why I'm frustrated beyond belief too. This is another entitlement we can't afford. Sure it would be nice if everyone had heathcare. Be nice if everyone drove a BMW 3-series too. But we can't save everyone. Putting the insurance companies in comp with each other via tearing down the state barriers that protect 2 or 3 local providers and allow us to buy across state lines is the easiest and possibly fastest way to drop our costs.

But the Dems want control however...and they want us beholden to THEM for generations to come, which secures their party at the ballot box -- just like in Europe, they're betting long term even if they will get smoked in November. Wake up people! This was never about healthcare. It is about growing the size and influence of govt in our lives. And THAT'S what I'm most opposed to.

Well you had your chance when you and Republicans had full control.

You chose to do nothing and let the Corporations go hog wild in greed.

Now you will suffer with the rest of real Americans.

I'm not saying there aren't any valid political reasons to disagree with and be frustrated by the Obama administration. Nor am I saying those that aren't racist can't have legitimate issues with the administration either. But make no mistake, there is racism afoot. It is pushing a lot of the more emotional opposition. And a lot of the non-racists with legitimate issues are willing to overlook any racist motivation that exists just because, politically, their goals are the same. It was happening in the run up to the election and has continued since.

I was also looking to see a video.

Also, the word "great person" to me does not mean a black person. It's a person that is a completely shitty person overall. I don't use the word even still.

So someone said things out loud that politicians say to each other behind closed doors about each other.

I'm going to run in 2018 on a platform of "reform." Apparently, I can call anything I want reform and people will eat it up. The system is broken? Any change will make it better! At the edge of a cliff? Any direction will get us to the bottom! We could walk back down the way we came, but it's a lot quicker to just jump over the side.

Can't be all that bad since you're saying you will still be here in 8 years.

Im looking for the day these tea party-ers next turn against republicans.
If the republican party think tea party-ers are their "friend" ... they are NOT!
But as with many lessons, some have to be learned the hard way.

Tea party-ers are not democrats, are not republicans, are not followers of the US constitution the founding fathers built this country on.
All they lack is a leader. That one person they would fight and die for. Someone like a Bin Laden.

How will that lower costs?

We could have real reform in America if Republicans die and aren't replaced by new assholes.
