I think I see a few of us who are training for a marathon or a half marathon. Check in here if you are. Post which marathon that you are running in, when, length of your weekly long run, your shoes, and training tips.

<-----me

Niagara Falls Marathon 10/26/03 (starts in Buffalo, NY and ends in Canada)
My long run is up to 14 miles this past saturday. But I had to stop a few times during the 14 miles.
I do ~3 weekly short runs ranging from 5 to 8 miles.
I wear Brooks Beast because I have superflat feet.

Good luck to you all.

My training tip: buy a pair of running shoes THAT FITS!!!!!

I'll be running in the 8k Mud Run at Little Creek Amphibious Base August 9th. (My first event ever) On August 31st I have the Rock and Roll half Marathon. I'm fairly new to the world of running, so I can't wait to participate in these events.

Mud Run
Rock and Roll Half Marathon

After taking up running about a year ago, I have worked my way up to running 8 miles 3 times a week on M,W, and F. mixed with weight training. I'll swim on T and THURS. On Sat. I run easy for about an hour. (Getting to this routine was hard, but it was well worth the time and effort.)

I would never dream of running for 3 hours straight.

Right now I'm planning to do the half marathon in September.

How far I run:
Monday: 10
Tuesday: 8
Wednesday: 9
Thursday: 6
Friday: 14
Saturday: 6

My shoes:
Training shoes: Brooks Beast
Racing: Nike Zoom Kennedy

Training:
The keys to running is form. I see a lot of people out jogging with absolutely no form. Doesn't really bother me. I respect them for getting out there, but there is a proper form to running.

Stability is key for running. I do 200 situps after every run. I stretch before and after each run as well. Cramps are suck.

For distance, I don't do any weight training. I'm pretty much a twig anyways (only 105lbs), but extra muscle for distance is bad, just more bulk to carry.

I also bike on my short days (as you can see from my schedule) and on sunday. Some say biking can substitute for running. IMO, it can't. Biking works different muscles. I usually bike around 20+ miles every time I go out.

GL to you, pennstate. I have high respect for anyone who does the marathon.

AunixM3, are you sure you are not over training? :)

I think stationary biking is beneficial because it strengthens your leg muscles and give you a stronger and more effortless kick.

Ohh, anybody use CamelBak FlashFlo? My 20 oz water bottom is just not cutting it for the long runs.
