Is there any reason why a machine (wife's laptop) which has Win98 on it can't be mapped to a drive on a server that has been recently updated to Win2000? The guys at her office are telling her they can't do it.

thanks

Assuming she logs into the domain from her laptop with a valid username and password, she should be able to map/access any shares she has permissions to in the domain. Make sure they enable and configure "Log into an NT Domain" in the Properties of the Client For Microsoft Networks.

You have to set up a profile in Windows 2000 for Win98 to map the drives on a Windows 2000 server. We are currently changing over some of our Novell servers to Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and had to deal with this issue. We set up home folders for all users (similar to Win NT), but Win98 doesn't map the drive, thus we had to create logon scripts to make the 98 machines map the drives. The Win98 machines did have access to the home folder, but we had to open them manually (\\severname\users\%UserName%).
