So I hear the NTFS file system will let me map a local folder as a network drive. That prompted me to reformat my partition to NTFS and reinstall win2k. now that i'm here, i have no idea what to do. everything that i've ready is for just network folders and not my local folders.

so does anyone know how to map a local folder as a network drive?

thanks,
keymo

Just share the folder. Then map a network drive like you normally would \\computer-name\sharename

Why do you wanna do that anyway?
Wouldnt it be much easier to just subst it?
For instance subst h: c:\winnt would map c:\winnt to h:, though it will be treated as a local filesystem, not as a mapped network share.

OMG!! I love you!!!

subst <drive> <path>

is exactly what i've been looking for. is this just a win2k thing or is it
a win2k/NTFS thing?

thanks a bunch,
keymo

ooooh. i just noticed that the &quot;virtual&quot; drives disappear after rebooting.
is there a way to keep them even after rebooting?

Actually, it works fine in NT, 2K, and even 9x's.
Its an old DOS command, so its beena round for some time.
