Mapped network drive "This operation has been cancelled due 2 restrictions in effect"

Ive mapped correct a network drive in my Windows 7 PC but when I try to access it I get:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

This is a standard Windows 7 PC, not joined to a domain. I havent set up any group policies.

Ive been able to setup network drives before so Im not sure what is going on here.

Can someone help me out and tell me what I should check out?

BTW, if I open a CMD and I try to access the network drive and I do a "dir" I can access it thru that and it lists everything.

What is wrong?

Thank you

I know that even small changeson a network/router/sharing options can break these. Since it is a basic network, and you can still connect to it, you may just want to map it again and see if the problem re-occurs.

Since you can access it from a cmd shell and not from the Explorer GUI, it definitely sounds like the 'Prevent access to drives from My Computer" Group Policy setting.

Open MMC and add the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in for the local PC. Then browse to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer. Check the "Prevent access to drives from My computer" setting.

Yup. First thing I retried was remapping and nothing.

sounds like permission issues.
Then why can I dir from a CMD?

I went ahead and checked this out as well just in case but it was set to not configured.

It doesnt make sense to me...

Maybe also check your registry in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer for a DWORD named NoDrives or NoViewOnDrive.
