Running Windows 10 Pro. I mapped a network drive to my webserver using an FTP address.

Now when I open the mapped drive in File Explorer and navigate to a folder and then try to open a file it won't open in anything but Chrome which then displays a blank page. I can't open a text file or a jpg or png file and have it displayed properly. Some how my file associations got screwed up.

Can someone please help me with this?

Ok follow my steps here. I will include screen shots.

1: Select map network drive.
2: Choose your drive letter.
3: Don't select browse but click on Connect to a Website that you can use to store your documents and pictures.

4: Then Add a network Location. Click next.
5: Then Choose a custom location.
6: Then put in the ftp address to where you want to go. I put in
Code:
ftp://ftp.mynewramblings.com
7: It then should ask you user name. Put that in.
8: It then should ask you for a password. Put that in.
9: Then it will display the root directory.
10: I then navigate to where I want to go and any file I click on to open it opens it in chrome not in then associated app on my pc.

Granted I could have just loaded filezilla on and used that. I thought this would be easier to do and quicker.

I dont think you can Map a internal DNS website, if thats what this code: "ftp://ftp.mynewramblings.com" is. You need to add the network location when you are trying to Map the Drive/Folder. That is considered a shortcut to add files to instead of having to look for the folder.
You have to create the folder you want to Map in your webserver itself.

For example: on the address box type: \\Server\Share\Folder\Subfolder\Subfolder\MapDrive

Just replace the names i have added with what ever folders you have to get to in order to find the folder that you need to Map.

What you wrote doesn't apply to what I am doing. That is not an internal site. That site is on my VPS.

This is what I used to do it. Second section

I can see I am not getting the answer I need. We have gone off the original question. We as splitting hairs here. Talking about semantics here.

I asked why is Windows explorer opening everything in Google Chrome and not in the associated application on my computer. When it opens a text file it's a blank page.

because your google chrome is setup as the default ftp client. just download aprogram that maps ftp wite as a drive and you will be able to treat it as a drive in windows.

here is a free one. I am sure there are others.

Ok I am going to just use an ftp client. I do apologize for my shortness. It seems windows 10 won't allow me to de associate chrome from FTP sites as it won't let me choose File Explorer.

Again thanks for the help and again sorry for my shortness.

I was just wanting to upload images to the site. Figured using File explorer and then copy and paste would be easy. But it's seems it's not. So back to filezilla.

Again thanks for the input. You did put things in perspective. Sometimes I make things more difficult then they should be.
