A sure sign that spring is on the way.

Our Sugar-Bushes are now open! They should be open until April 1st.

This means pancakes, french toast, sausages and lots of maple syrup. And Maple sugar candy too.

There is one not too far from me.

:awe:

Just got a jar of homemade from my uncle today actually. Nice light amber color. Taste is sublime.

Remember everyone, Grade B is the good stuff.

Lol I happen to like the grade B actually. When I moved up to New England, I went on a tour of a sugar shack and the guide explained that grade B was usually used for baking etc... while the higher grades are consumed directly.

Maybe it is because I was raised on Aunt Jemima syrup but I love the grade B. Its heavier and more flavorful to me. I can see how the lighter grade A syrups with their more delicate flavors can demand more price, but they taste too light to me.

Absolutely, but it's virtually impossible to find around here. I could order online of course, but I don't think of it when I'm getting other stuff, and I don't want to make a special buy for syrup.

Do I need a hunting license? How many can I shoot?

Hunting Canadians is like hunting varmints. There's no particular laws or limits. Remember to get them AFTER they come out of the store. If you tag them beforehand, you'll go syrupless ;^)

My GF actually prefers using honey than maple syrup on her french toast...

I don't care for either.

I get my maple syrup from Costco. Kirkland brand. I think it's Grade B, but I'm not positive.

Kirkland brand is Grade A. That's what I used to eat til I discovered Trader Joe's Grade B maple syrup from Quebec in a glass wine bottle. It's not a huge difference from A and B as people here make it out to be. And maple syrup in general is overrated. I'll take a good honey over maple syrup any day of the week. Honey > maple syrup.

No sugar is added to "pure maple syrup". Maple flavor syrup can have added sugar.

Always buy Vermont maple syrup. Its clearly the best.

If you want to try something interesting add maple syrup to a beef stew instead of salt. Back in colonial times thats what they did.
