Map: where NHL players were born.

It's interesting to zoom in on North America to see which parts of the USA produce more hockey players than others. Also keep in mind that some current players are sons of former players and were born to Canadians playing in US cities.

Well yeah. I believe Canada produces a bit over 50% of the NHL players, with the rest split between the US and the rest of the world.

But could Canada support a 30 team league that would generate the amount of revenue that the NHL generates? Probably not, so quit your complaining.

Edit: OK, you can complain if they try to move more teams to the southern US.

It says there is 6 from my town of <8k people. I don't think there are any here that are currently playing, so it must include past players.

Wikipedia says that one goaltender from here, Lorne Anderson gave up the fastest hat trick, 21 seconds lol.

Pretty sure that map shows everyone who has ever played in the NHL, because I clicked on NJ and half of the players who were listed were retired.

The chart of number of players per million population is interesting, and not surprisingly the US drops farther down the list (0.6 for the US vs 15.9 for Canada, 7.6 for Finland, etc)
