Yep, and it looks to me like Moonie might have sent one of those :). Isn't he in San Fransisco?

Isn't that just a population density map? I kid...but there are quite a few dots in "progressive" areas.

Strange. The concentration of tweets in Mississippi seem to be around the Hattiesburg, Jackson, and Memphis area (Northwest Mississippi/Desoto County is basically a suburb of Memphis). Those aren't really the "redneck" areas of the state, though they are the more heavily populated areas.

There's also a blip in Tupelo, though, which is in a part of that state that was historically considered "the hills" and not very kind to African-Americans.

I guess it's simply because those areas of the state have a higher population. It's still completely inexcusable, of course.

I do wonder what the map would look like if it were adjusted for population, though.

If I'm reading this correctly, while the red dots are tweets, the shade of green is based on the tweets per population. Hence, 10 racist tweets in a state with a population of 10 million isn't as racist as 5 racist tweets in a state with a population of one million.

Something else to consider - who uses Twitter. Just a guess, but I'd think that the frequency with which people use Twitter increases with the level of education.

hmmm, for some reason, I thought I read she was from/worked in SF. *shrug* oh well.

Ehh I'm wrong, She was actually from Turlock. Halfway between Fresno and SF. A bit closer to Fresno. But a world away in terms of culture.

Just the name Turlock should tell you something, it sounds like a suburb/dungeon of Morodor in middle earth or some shit.

Seeing as how blacks use the "N" word all the time I wonder how many of those were actually from African Americans?
