Is there a map application for the Touch that doesn't require internet access? I love having google maps, but a few weeks back i got lost in the scariest part of Baltimore with a dead cell phone and a broken GPS. It would have been really helpful to see a map (yeah, I should carry one, but it wasn't an area I wanted to pull over and rummage around in my back seat).

I wouldnt need directions, just a map.

I don't know of one. There was a great app that used to save maps from GoogleMaps to your internal storage, but it was a jailbroken one, so I don't know if they have plans to release it on the app store or not.

I would love to have an offline version of GoogleMaps, even for a $15-20 fee.

Yeah, I assumed it would cost, but it would be worth a few bucks.

I think google could easily make a free app. Just let it permanently cache an area when you click a certain button.

i was just thinking a really ghetto solution could be to do a screenshot of a google map as a jpg. then you could just view it in the photos section of the ipod touch.

It already sort of does this... I was driving in an unknown area in Atlanta, GA, and just looked at directions to a place that I needed to go, and then didn't navigate away from it... The directions stayed on the screen and I was able to use them to go straight to the location that I was looking for.

I still prefer the active GPS method, but it worked when I needed it to.
