I have a 1ghz, 512meg ram, ti 4 4400, win98se.
So my question, or questions. I have been reading the articles on scaling and possible bottlenecking. I suppose my cpu is holding my card back a bit maybe alot. To be honest i am very happy with it but i was hoping for slightly more. it is running at 305/650 and because of the cpu i dont see any point in pushing it further in fact it might be worth rolling it back a bit. In games like IL2 sturmovich i have been getting around 35-40fps. I have a lot of the details turned up addmitedly. But it still seems quite low. Is this right, does it sound right? It is running at 1024x768 (highest monitor res i'm affraid). I have the AA set to automatic, i dont see where in IL2t to change that. In fact in the setup i have it set to trilinear to boost perfomance a bit. Also for Ansio i have it set to 8X. But to be honest no matter what i do the frame rates still seem to be between 20fps (all details on) and 40fps (all details off). I was wondering if there is a limiter to how high your fps goes in windows. (i have rivatuner)
This is not a one off either. In jedi knight 2, i have most details set high and the fps is around 50fps. I am not moaning to much at this because it looks great and is, but there generally does not seem to be much difference with or without ansio on and/or other detail settings. Which begs the question if i am enabling/disabling it correctly. After a while of trying hundreds or different windows and game settings it does get rather mind boggling. Also while we are on the subject, how can you put ansio up to 64X, as i said it is on 8x and that seems to be the last option on rivatuner.
I guess the main question or theme, is am i getting what i should be from the card and my machine? I have not overclocked the cpu at all. Maybe i should, but i am going to need to do some serious reading around the subject before i do it. I want to check that i have not missed something absolutely glaring which is slowing everything down. I have my vcache to 16meg to 128meg. virtual memory is windows managed. I dont think my swap file is used much. I know some of these questions are not exclusively video based, but it is all to get the best graphical performance.
Sorry for such a long post. Thanks guys for any input. It is much appreciated.
Thanks alot
