If I remember correctly, I read in an interview with NVidia's CEO that the 7800GTX is made with the 110nm process while the 90nm process is taking time to mature. It's been now about a month - 2months since the 7800 been released, that's almost a third of a card's lifespan before a "fall refresh".

Ati's R520 is now being released into production and it's a 90nm part, my guess is that it will be a bit faster than the 7800gtx and might include some of that embedded ram goodness they were talking about for the Xbox 360. Theoretically, it should be faster than the 7800GTX.

Do you guys think that NVidia is sitting on a fall refresh 90nm part as an answer to the R520? At least they should have a 90nm 7800GTX part that's quite a bit faster in mhz than the 110nm part, no?

no 90nm from nvidia until '06, if any new card it might be a faster clocked 7800GTX core with 512Mb memory.
 
If ATI releases the R520 with 24 true pipelines and clocked insanely high on a 90nm process (core and mem) it may very well be faster than the 7800GTX but that is just speculation. We know next to nothing about the R520 specs.

If ATI releases the R520 with 16 Hyperpipes or whatever they would call it (God I hope not) then there is a good chance it will not best the 7800GTX.

If ATI releases the R520 with 32 true pipelines (not likely but possible) then I'm "guessing" it will be much faster than the 7800GTX but with very limited availability. Just so ATI can claim performance crown temporarily.

There are rumors of a "7800Ultra or a 7900version" supposedly on a 90nm process but again, this is all unconfirmed.
