manufacturing cost of electronics?

ok let's say, a 60" rear projection HDTV.

How much does it cost for the manufacturer to manufacture one? like material, labor, etc.

no where near the sale price :p

thanks to mass production.

albeit R&D isn't free either, but once the work out the kinks and mass produce, the cost per item is vastly reduced

that goes for alot of products, i saw a plastic trash can at wal mart the other day for about 12 bucks....fvck me, it couldnt have possibly cost 2 dollars to make in the first place and they wanted 12 bucks for it

You have to figure in a lot of things besides the cost of materials.

Salaries of employees that made it
Cost of maintianing production facility
Shipping to retailer
Retailer employee salary
Cost of operating retail store
Advertising (both manufacturer and retailer)

The basic rule of thumb I've heard is around 5x the cost of the BOM (Bill Of Materials). That's not all profit. There's a lot of overhead in a manufacturing company, everything from assembly, advertising, office and assembly staffs, shipping, a reserve for customer service, parts failures, etc.
