manufactuers should be forced to show vista score on box

you mean the preformance score thing? isnt that pretty damn pointless? its not hard to post full 5.9s on tha tIIRC that is the max

how can they say what the score would be when they don't know the other components that are compiling the score? 😕

Vista said they will update the scoring system as time goes on as well..another wrench in the machine to think about.

And..who cares? It's not like you can't tell from the components.

Also who is to do this "forcing" you talk about? If it's important to you write to the companies, call before hand, oh wait..it's much easier to whine and ask for the "gubberment" to take care of it.

Boggling.😕

Now that the system they use is good, but how would that make any sense? Random number generator? Come on.

Why? It is pretty damn apparent just looking at the basic specs on the outside of a system how well it would do. The systems with onboard video and 2gb of ram will not be performing well.

i think his point is that the non-techie does not have a thorough understanding of system components and to those, a relative number is easier for them to follow.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane or an Intel C2D E8400 means squat to my mom.

It all depends on what you want to do with it?
I have a system with onboard video 3GB of RAM and it flies. I don't play games on it so, PCI-E uber video cards are not required by me.

The Vista score is an arbitrary # that means jack squat. The max you can get in Vista is what a 6? My Shuttle PC with a e2200 can get a 5.9.

In most cases software purchased and used by the general population won't be resource intensive. When you start getting into software that are a bit more technical, aka games or development apps, the buyer tends to have some know-how to know whether his or her machine can handle it I would imagine.

all i am doing is trying to figure out what video card rates as what.

say a radeon 5550 gets 2/3.2 while a radeon 9800 gets 3.8/4.2

thats what i want to see.

Then go read a review. Problem solved

We shouldn't need a scoring system. The damn thing should work like XP did.

Why do we need a 3ghz processor, 4 gig of RAM and a non integrated video card just to run the thing smoothly?

it runs fine on 2GHz DC procs with 1 gig of ram
