Manual driver installation- uninstall old drivers?

I've always just let Windows deal with my drivers in Windows 7. I don't think thought that it installs the latest version of my card's video drivers, and it doesn't install the catalyst software.

Do I need to uninstall drivers first when manually installing new ones in Windows 7, or do I just install the new ones?

I usually uninstall old drivers first because I'm ocd, but I've heard it doesn't really matter.
