Wanted to play this game, along with it's sequel. I downloaded Maniac Mansion Deluxe (it's free). It's just what I was looking for, but two problems I have:

Don't know how to get out of the dungeon.

Is there no way to save? Am I supposed to play start to finish without stopping? Also I get an error every once in a while which I imagine would really piss me off if I played pretty far in the game and it ended abruptly.

I hope someone remembers.

Saving works fine. I've played through this deluxe version twice. Like other SCUMM games, hitting F5 brings up the menu.

In fact, there are a few bugs in it where things can potentially screw up your game, so you want to make sure you save often.

As for the dungeon, you need to get a key for it. I think it's either in Edna's room or in the chandelier in the room next to the library (which you can shatter by playing back the tentacle sounds there). Can't remember exactly.

If its exactly the same as the classic version, I would suggest using GameFAQs and reading the NES or old computer guides.

Awesome. I don't think I ever finished the game. Got stuck somewhere in the dungeon too. Where did you find it? I would love to play it again!

Day of The Tentacle was my favorite. One of the greatest Lucas Arts Games. I still run them off the original cd with dosbox.

Re the dungeon, isn't there a loose brick that you can have 1 character push, and the other can escape? I'm digging through my memory from 15 years ago, so I may be wrong.

And yes loose brink in dungeon if you do not have keys or passcode. Wow what a simple and great game that was lol

I think the brick couldn't get everyone out at once though, since one person had to hold the brick down while the others left.

Can't you play the whole maniac mansion in Day of the tenticle?

It's a computer you walk up to and just play it.

I have those old Lucasarts collections with Full Throttle and India Jones and what not, fun to play sometimes.

OT but, you just reminded me about the carnival lvl in Sonic 3.
That was were I last left Sonic and Tales on my Cartridge, I didn't figure out how to beat that drum part until yeas later, and boy was I MAD! I thought how simple why didn't I figure that out?!

This game is hard. I keep getting lost. Trying not to use a walkthrough but I can only wander around without being able to do anything for so long. Plus the game crashing error is getting more rampant. It's annoying. I guess when they remade the game they forgot to beta test it.

I got the key to open all the arcade machines, but none of them do anything. Can look at the high scores of Meteor Madness, but that's all. I don't see how that helps me at all. There's some wall covered with lots of paint upstairs but using the paint remover on it doesn't do anything for some reason. I'll keep looking around. If I can't figure out what to do I'll come back to this thread or look up a walkthrough.

Well I finished it, surprisingly. It came to a quick finish, I didn't even use hard any of the items...no need for a chainsaw, paint remover, developer. Apparently I missed a lot of stuff. Ah well. Now on to day of the tentacle.

This game was fairly nonlinear compared to most of the newer Lucasarts adventure games. Some of those items are used only by certain characters (depending on who you select at the beginning) and there are three or four different endings.

The chainsaw is actually a joke though and is not used for anything. One of the other games (forget which one now, might have been Zak McCracken) has a can of chainsaw fuel but no chainsaw. :D
