Trump's lawyers have asked for an emergency stay from the Second District court which is in NY but if it finds the judge in this case made a proper ruling then there's no reason I see that would happen. If Trump wants to appeal after the documents in question and interfere in the grand jury process I suppose he could attempt to do so but it's a little late I think and no court has to take up an appeal, just let the lower stand.

According to the NYT, Vance is now looking for violations of state law now but I find it strange that this has not been done already (and perhaps it has but not announced before due to keeping cards close to the vest). Since I know that the Trump Foundation was an act of fraud and that his organization is in large part based in NY then if worse comes to worst this becomes a state issue outside the realm of the Feds. Our law (I've checked) does not allow for the shens of Trump.

Trump has taken his pirated ship of state, aimed the cannon down and blown through the keel. At this point it's taking on water fast and this leaves Mitch and Co to go down with Ahab or risk a dubious but possibly better fate in the rickety lifeboats they have left and toss the ah heck overboard.

I believe the New York AG has tried to play by traditional rules for a long time, arguably too long. Probably sick of not getting responded to and constant delays.

Marrero said Trump's claim of "absolute immunity" from criminal proceedings was counter to the intent of the framers of the constitution, who rejected an executive with the limitless power of a monarch. Marrero described the president's argument as "repugnant to the nation's governmental structure and constitutional values."

A temporary stay has been granted pending expedited review of an appeal. I think eventually Trump is going to lose definitively.

"Expedited" may be a telltale as that demonstrates a sense of urgency on the part of the courts. As Presidents have been criminally investigated before there seems no precedent in support of Trump.

No way that argument survives a judicial review. It would make the president a king.

While this is good we should note that the Trump appointee dissented with an opinion so insane that it would effectively make congressional oversight impossible. In effect he said that Congress may not investigate if laws were broken unless it is part of an impeachment proceeding so they either need to be constantly impeaching everyone or be totally blinded.

This was about the easiest case ever and the fact that it wasn't unanimous shows how corrupted the other branches of government are already becoming.

EDIT: In effect it would have made the Watergate investigation unconstitutional.

Since I think their primary purpose is delay my guess would be an en banc review next, which should be promptly denied, followed by SCOTUS appeal.

From what I understand wouldn't probably be much of a delay.

It will be interesting to see what the mood at SCOTUS is for this. They've got to be getting a little tired of him demanding they bail him out every 5 minutes. This admin has appealed to them for stuff at rates far above that of and modern administration.

I guess we'll see, if nothing else it will be a good measure of how corrupted the judiciary has become as this should be a blanket refusal to hear.

I honestly don’t know which has pissed off the Donald more today...this decision, or the fact that a guy named Abu Ackmed won his precious Nobel Prize.

Tough call but I’d say it’s the tax thing because money always trumps with the President

My question is why they think these delays will work in their favor. They do realize that they'll likely still have to cough up the returns before the election, right? And that even a rigged SCOTUS might not have a legal justification for holding things back?

I still can't help but wonder how Trump would react if those returns are handed over, especially if details become public. Does he go nuclear and threaten illegal punishment? Encourage violence against the DA? Become the first fugitive President in US history?

Even with the current makeup of the SCOTUS, I expect that the appeal judgment will stand. At that point, Mazar will have to defy the Judiciary as any position by Trump's lawyers will be effectively dismissed. The courts will not take well to being spammed.

Past the point of no return. Any delay is a good thing now, however if they were released last year whatever outrage they would have caused would be old and tired by now.
This is assuming there isn’t something blatantly illegal in them.

I wish the Nobel organization would publish the shortlist now instead of waiting 50 years, if just to show Trump that he wasn't even in serious consideration.

There's a story out that a whistleblower from Deutchebank has already turned them over.

That bank said today they do not have the tax returns, I’d be skeptical of any tax return leaks.
If I remember correctly they may have a summary as in this is the money coming in and this is the money going out but that’s it.
