They are really messy, though. What is the best way to get the meat out? I used a knife to cut it into quarters, but it was hard to separate the flesh from the pit. It was hard to get the skin off too. Help me mango experts!

Usually if the skin is hard to get off, it isn't ripe enough. I just eat the meat off the mango itself, dont' bother cutting the meat off.

You don't want to cut them in quarters cause it has a nice pit. The way I do it is to first skin it like a potato. Then sliced it into thin strips cutting on parallel to the long edge of hte pit. Leave some of the mango on the pit and then get yourself really messy eating whats left around the pit (the best part about eating a mango).

Also, how do you tell when they are ripe? I let it get about 70-80% yellow, with some green left, but it tasted fine.

You can leave the skin on, and cut a face off from either side of the seed.

Eat those 2 pieces similar to eating an orange.

You can then peel off the skin from remaining part with the seed and have fun trying not to make some mess!

If they get too ripe it'll get too soft.

Best way to do it is by touch... just squeeze it gently and if all around it feels slightly soft, you're in luck. They can be ripe/half ripe and still look green.

Right on. I've been on a Mango binge lately too. My preferred method to eat them is this; with beer by side stand over the kitchen sink and mow it down.

Aren't frozen grapes good? It doesn't matter if they are soft or hard at room temp if you freeze them!
