There are some really good screenshots that make mandrake 9.0 look almost dead on the mac os. I cant get it took look any where near it. Also whats a good linux multimedia player? Also how do u get linux to play .avi?

Come on if Linux would simply let me play .avi's I would use it as my primary OS!!!!

For your themes, check out art.gnome.org and kdelook.org, my desktop was very aquafied for a long time.

As for avi's, no problem. (By avi I assume you mean the various flavors of divx)

Go to http://www.mplayerhq.hu, installing mplayer can be slightly tricky, but it's a fantastic media player. You'll need to install some "codec packs" first, there are some tarballs that must be extracted to /usr/lib. After that it's just a matter of ./configure;make;make install, which I'll assume you're familiar with. Mplayer has support for a huge number of formats, even sorenson quicktime.

Another good option is xine, http://xine.sourceforge.net. Particularly good if you're a gnome user, the frontend "totem" is very nice, available at http://www.hadess.net.

well, limewire doesn't play movies, and if you could post any errors/steps you took to install xine maybe we could help.
