This is what I did so far. I created the boot disk, insert the floppy and CD into the drives.. went through the first steps of setup, defined the mouse, language, and chose to eerase the entire disk for clean install. THe next step is for the package listing to come up.. but that never does. What happens is the monitor light turns amber (instead of being green), so I basicaly lose video signal, keyboard lights go out, and all I hear is the power supply fan. I also cannot eject the CD or get ANY response at all and am forced to turn the machine off. Any idea anyone???

They give instructions on specifying the amount of RAM you have... try putting it in as a parameter. When I tried to install, it did similar things to me, and it only worked when I defined the amount of RAM I had explicitly to the installer. It couldn't autodetect for some reason.

I have 192 megs of RAM.. what do u mean specify it? I never got a prompt asking for the ram.. is this in the expert install? I am just doing the recommended install.

I alos posted in the hardware and OS msg board as well.. but no responses there.

So you created this with an ISO from mandrake's site Im assuming. Are you wiping your whole drive clean? or are you going to partition it/

Then how are you telling us this? Do you have a seperate machine?
When you wipe the drive clean, a box should pop up and auto detect your internal parts. If it doesnt you should be able to specify what you have. Are you running the advanced install or the normal?

try an advanced install, that may solve your problems. You are powering down because linux didnt find whats in your computer.

Yes, it's on the advanced/expert install (or whatever they call it). I put in the amount of RAM out of desperation, and surprise surprise, it worked for me.

You can try using the text-based installation too. It didn't help me out, but it's worth a shot. Try every combination possible (they describe it in the advanced installation section).
