Mandrake monitor refresh rates?

Ok this should be easy for some of you Linux gurus but not for me apparently, I have the newest Mandrake installed and I am trying to set my monitor refresh rates, my problem is that my Samsung Syncmaster 753FD isn't an available option under the change monitor option and all the generic values have a refresh rate too high or too low for my monitor. My question is how can I set the refresh rates manually? This was the same problem with the newest Redhat version too, I just installed this Mandrake over Redhat to try it.

Manually edit your XF86Config-4 file to reflect the horizontal and vertical ranges for your monitor.
A little further down in the file you'll notice some settings for refresh rates and color depth.
Just comment out or delete the ones you don't want to use. Make sure the resolution you want to run at is the highest value in the section or you'll get the virtual desltop thing going.

hi i'm hoping that you can help me to achieve a specific refresh rate and resolution in Mandrake. i know that my monitor (ViewSonic E790) is capable of doing 1152x864@100Hz, because it's what i use in Windows.

i've tried editing the XF86Config-4 file, changed heaps of things, but it doesn't seem to want to do a specific setting. in the "Monitor" section, if i change the VertRefresh to 100, instead of a range of values, it will do this, but always jumps back to 800x600. the same for 85Hz, it wants to use 1024x768. in the "Screen" section i tried taking out all the resolution except "1152x864", but that still didn't change anything. can you possibly tell me which lines i need to add/edit to achieve 1152x864@100Hz?

thanks heaps.
