Is the newest mandrake linux that you can download off mandrake's website self bootable? Also, are there fdisk like utilities on that cd? Help would be appreciated (Linux N00b) Thanx.
The Mandrake iso file does create a bootable cd. And yes, there are fdisk like utils on the cd that even allow a windows partition to be resized. Aside from that, the Madrake install is very straight forward. good luck.
thanx a lot, doing it right now. This is my first experience with linux, trying to run a webserver. Is it hard to make a webserver from linux? In windows xp it was quite easy using iis. How would i make a webserver in linux?
yes, there's a Linux Fdisk .. which makes the dos version look like a fisher price toy .. setup a webserver on linux hard .. nope .. you could download, compile, install, and configure, and test it in maybe .. well if ur slow 10minutes=) .. you've probably heard of Apache, what the majority of websites run on ( cue for nt guys to post a stat about IIS ) .. docs and downloads can be found here http://www.apache.org/ .. free help and documentation galore .. good luck .. oh an FTP server, take ur pick, the most documented is probably Wu-FTP ... the most secure/best well probably Proftpd .. good luck .. and enjoy linux ..

Apache is pretty easy to setup. Not necessarily my first choice in web servers, but its free. ftp servers are bad juju. Do *NOT* use wu-ftp. Stick with pro or pure. One benefit to linux daemons like apache is that there doesnt have to be a gui. a command line and vi are all you really need. Cant get better than that 😉
