9.2 has some issues where it apparently kills LG CD-ROM drives...!! wtf eh!?!?

i was wondering, i have an LG CD-RW and ive installed mandrake 9.1 and used it for a couple months with no problems... should i try 9.2 or just play it safe?

IMHO, Mandrake 9.2 still needs a bit of time to get all of its bugs earned out. If it has even the slightest possibiity of frying something then you should stick with 9.1. I'm using 9.1 right now and I don't think that I'll be upgrading in the near future. If you're really impatient/adventurous you could try it anyway or buy a new cdrom drive.

I wonder how it "kills" the CD-ROMs? Anyone have any ideas?

And is there an ETA on when Mandrake 9.2 ISOs will be available for a legit d/l? So far I can't find them.

goto the link i posted in my first msg, theres an article and some workarounds, but not a legit fix yet.

as for the ISOs they will take a bit, i havent heard anything more concrete.

It's a bug in the drives, apparently issuing the "flush cache" command effectively wipes the firmware or something like that.

Hmm, that's pretty harsh. I hope my TDK VeloCD isn't a rebadged LG drive... 😀

thats pretty sh!tty but if its stricly a bug in the drives why does only 9.2 have this issue?

IMO its mandrake's responsability to fix this and re-release 9.2 when theyre done
