Mandrake 9.0 Install problem

I'm trying to install Madrake 9.0 on my system and it says it can't recognize my CD-ROM drive...what would be causing this? I have a Toshiba SD-M11502 DVD-ROM and a Lite-On 48/12/48 CD-RW drive. The DVD-ROM says it is supported in the compatibility list for 9.0, but when I try to install it says "No CD-ROM found" and then it asks me to choose a driver...and then after I choose a driver from the list it asks me for drive parameters and it still doesn't recognize the drive...why? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any help would be nice... thanks.

I tried using my CD-RW and it does the same thing...plus, my internet access at school blows when more than three peoplle use it at a time....so I couldn't do that...I would just like to be able to get this thing going!!! damnit!
