I am new to linux, so there is probably a very simple fix to my problem, but I cannot get mandrake 8.1 to install. I booted off the cd, started installing, and after it loaded its install program, it gave me the error that said, "Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk." I tried downloading another image of mandrake, same error. Tried the diffrent kernals off the second mandrake cd, same issues. Anyone know what this means? And more importantly, how to fix it? Here is some information(with no particual organization) that may or may not be helpful:
attempt to access beyond end device
16:00 rw=0, want=575976 x(=0x), limit 575976
tmp/image/mandrake/base/mdkinst_stage2.bz2
error in exec of stage2
fata error in stage1. I/O ERROR
Some system specs:
MSI 6312 motherboard (810e chip)
onboard vid/sound/modem being used
HP 2x2x24 cdrw(hey..works good as a cdrom) (linux had no issues with the cdrom)
WD 80gb hdd
floppy
USB keyboard and mouse
2x Belkin 10/100 network cards
Any information would be very helpful.
Thank you
