I setup my Windows 2000 machine to ICS and then installed Linux Mandrake 7.2 on my laptop.
everything went super smooth and it worked on the internet first try!

only thing that doesn't work is my stupid winmodem, but setting up the Windows 2000 machine and the Linux machine to share my 56k modem was easy.

only bad thing is this laptop has only 32megs of ram (its very slow in linux right now 🙁 ) it does have a 350mhz processor
anyway I plan to up that to 160 megs (max for laptop) as soon as I get some more money.
hopefully that will speed it up a lot.

I may just keep Linux on this laptop when I get more ram. Goodbye Microsoft! 🙂

Cool. Just some advice on your memory problem.
Maybe you can try some light-weight apps. KDE, Gnome, Mozilla, Netscape, these are
all very ram hangury. Instead of them, you might try something like
WindowMake, XFCE, Opera, Mutt, etc.

thanks for the suggestions I'll try those out.

ram for my laptop is super cheap right now.
I can get a 128 meg upgrade for it (take it to the max of 160) for 49 dollars from Crucial 🙂

I thought installing linux on a laptop would be hard, but it wasn't. This was probably the easiest linux install that I have done.
I have only done 3 installs though. 🙂 can you say newbie? 😀
