I was having a weird problem trying to install Mandrake 7.2 on my system.

While it was installing the packages, the install would freeze (I still had mouse control, but couldn't click on cancel). It dit this everytime I tried, but never at the same place. I couldn't even eject the CD. I thought it might be a bad CD, so I burned another one, same result.

Finally, I tried switching console (CTRL-ALT-F2) and typed ls -l at the prompt. The CD-ROM began reading again and the installation resumed ...

I had to do this every 5 minutes or so.

Anyone has a clue as to why this happened ?

Also, for some reason, LILO was used instead of GRUB, and wouldn't work at all. I had to boot from a diskette and install GRUB to get it to work ...

Here's my hardware config:
Abit KT7
Duron 600
128 MB RAM PC133 (mushkin)
GeForce2 MX
SB LIVE
hda : Maxtor 15 GB 7200 RPM, Windows 98 (all Fat32)
hdc : Teac CDW-54 (4x4x32)
hdd : IBM 10 GB, Linux, all ext2fs + swap
