Yeppers, I'm sitting pretty right now with Mandrake 7.2 beta. Here's what I've noticed thus far:
-SUO
- My only *real* problem during the install was that my zsh-doc.rpm seems to be corrupt. Granted, I had to reboot to get back to the point to NOT install that RPM, but I find that as a minor bump in the road of a Linux hobbyist. I'm guessing my overused CDRW is biting the dust.
- My other minor problem was that I couldn't install my printer. I don't think they've gotten to that point in the DrakX config tool. No major loss as far as I am concerned. I can probably set it up properly now that the OS is up and running.
- Kernel is 2.2.17. Kewl.
- XFree86 4.0.1 is the default manager and appears to be working with my Savage4 card. Unless there is a new change, I coulda sworn this chip wasn't yet supported in 4.x. I have yet to look at my XF86Config. Anyway, I *know* my ATi Xpert128 is supported, so dual displays should be in my very near future. Woohoo!
- BTW, the install was totally graphical, as in Mandrake 7.1. Oh yeah, I did an expert install (people had reported problems with it over on LinuxNewbie
- I have yet to really play around with Gnome 1.2 nor KDE 2 beta. The new Gnome looks cool for the moment. Maybe HelixCode is next?
- Install also had *ZERO* problems with my HPT366-mounted ATA66 hard drive. Same with my Zip. I didn't have to configure a thing (I think I had to update /etc/lilo.conf with 7.1 so that it saw the HPT366 controller even though the installer in 7.1 saw it).
- My Aureal Vortex2 drivers didn't install, but that may be because I didn't install the kernel source.
- Netscape 4.75
- The Gnome menu generation seems to be pre-done now. I didn't have to wait on my first log-in.
- There is an animated clock on the graphical log-in screen. Nice touch, I think
- More to come. I wanna play with it now!
