Mandrake 7.2 extremely slow

Anyone else notice Mandrake is butt slow? It comes with the new KDE 2 which might be the problem but I dont know. Netscape 6 takes a few minutes to start up. Its a P2-266 w/128mb RAM. I allocated 128M i nthe lilo.conf file and turned on UDMA and 32 bit access, still too slow. Any ideas? Thanks.

Netscape always seems to be "butt-slow" in general, but I am running a comparable system to yours (333 128mb) and Mine seems to be pretty fast, but I am not using mandrake, I am using Red hat, I have noticed KDE is a bit slow, especially the early version. You may have it setup properly, but just using an older, slower x server. is it the newest version?

I've got mandrake 7.2 on my old home system. I've got a 200Mhz MMX, 96MB RAM, 2.5GB Partion that it is installed onto. During my play time with it, I've never noticed any differense in speed. However, I've got to upgrade my video so that I can have a higher resolution. However, I do agree that the new mandrake with kde 2 does seem to be slow.

Run a test on your HD to see if it is *ACTUALLY* running at UDMA speeds. Type
"hdparm -t /dev/????" in the console and see what it gets. If it is a low score, it is not using UDMA..
