Managing Dual Displays

Managing dual displays has always been a use pain. I got my monitor (primary of course) and i got my TV hooked up. There's apparently no good software to manage these displays. All i want is my monitor to be 1280x1024 @ 100hz and have my TV be 800X600. Is that so much to ask? If i change it via the Windows display properties screen, i can't pan around the screen, i just get an 800x600 photo of my desktop wallpaper (or whatever is is the middle of my screen at the time). Other thing i'm trying to use is the ATI Catalyst Control Center, which takes forever to load up in the first place it's horrible for trying to manage displays. I can get it to clone with my monitor, but like i said, i want the TV to be 800x600 and my monitor to be 1280x1024 at the same time. Just tell me what program i have to download and i'll do it. Thanks.

Oh just realized something. There are two possibilities as to why it won't work. Either you have the setting set to 'clone' instead of the independent display mode will cause this. You might have a video card that doesn't support separate displays for the S-video out/Composite out and so you'll be forced to clone mode only. I'm sure if you fiddle with it enough, you'll figure it out.

Still can't get it to work right, it's being a huge pain in the ass. Seeing as no programs can do what i want, i'm thinking it might be a problem with my TV. Having dual displays only works effectively if it is cloned with my main monitor, but i don't want it to be cloned. If i set my TV as 800x600 it's just a closeup of my desktop wallpaper and i can't move around the screen or see anything besides a small part of the middle of my wallpaper on my TV, same with any other resolution. Like i said, it only works if it's cloned, nothing else ever works. My main purpose is to have my monitor at the res it is now (1280x1024 @100hz) and my TV in 800x600 (while having ALL of the screen in the tv and not just a small part of the middle of the screen which is frozen, as if i could use my TV solely as my monitor if i needed to). Also, anytime i try to fool around with this kind of stuff, the refresh rate on my monitor always gets messed up, windows ends up putting it to 85hz for no reason.

maybe you should switch your VGA out port. You realize the TV and the monitor you're viewing on need to be on separate RAMDACS, right? You've got to make sure the TV has it's own ramdac and the desktop screen has it's own. Since it's clear that the TV wants to go simply in clone mode, you need to change where the computer screen is hooked up, since there are at least two VGA out on that card, hook up the computer screen to the other one and try again.

I don't know about any of that but i do know i used to be able to do what i wanted to (mentioned above and explained very thoroughly :p). Not sure what happened since then, been a long time, should still be able to work fine. Feels like every display managing program i've used in the recent past has been playing tricks on me. Like it knows it can do what i want it to, but it won't do it :p

I don't have another VGA port. Like i said though i used to be able to do what i want to do. Now every fvcking program mocks me and won't let me do anything i want, just gives me a closeup of my wallpaper, whoopee. That's really useful.

Someone please help me, every display managing program is a complete piece of ******. Programs can't do anything besides show me a big photo of my wallpaper on my TV, which is no help at all. It places the displays side by side, so if i move my mouse off my monitor to the right side it goes to my TV, that's horribly retarded but it's the only thing i can get any program (including windows display properties) to do, i just want it to FVCKING WORK. It can not believe it's SO hard to get it to do what i want. Don't want my TV to clone my monitor, but i don't want it to just show a picture of my wallpaper either.
