Management training seminars are retarded.

They're holding one here.... the've split up all the participants into groups of five or so. One of them is in the office next to me, and they're singing "old mcdonald had a farm" but they've changed the words to reflect al lthe corporate management buzzwords they've been taught over the week (yes, they've been doing this crap all week). It sounds like they're going to present their song to the entire group when they're done, and the other groups are likely doing similar stupid things. A couple days ago, they were pairing off and having one person in each pair close his eyes so the other guy could lead him around like he's blind. Then the day after that, I was coming back from lunch, and they were standing out on the lawn doing something with ropes attached to a bucket....

How the hell does this make them better managers? What a waste of a week.

I think I'm going to post on AT all day in protest.

I always post on AT all day in protest. Protest of what, other than work, i'm not sure. But i protest. It is mainly a silent protest.

I actually had one training seminar that was pretty cool. It was a training session on how to manipulate people into getting them to say what you wanted them to say, and how to get them to agree to something that you wanted them to agree with. It also showed ways on handle irrate customers.

Fun stuff! My fiancee hates it because I practiced my "skills" on her. eheheheheh!

Like brainwashing, huh?

That's about as good as one of the department's on my floor that get together every Thursday and sing "You are Special" in the conference room next to my office.

And I agree, most of these management/supervisor training is a waste. I was once told at one of these training seminars that if employee A (male) wouldn't take an assignment with employee b (female), because where employee A grew up it was unacceptable to work with a female, I should just let it slide and take his upbringing into consideration. How stupid is that, I'm basically fostering a hostile, sexually harassed work environment.

Just wait...in your career, you'll probably be forced to read or watch "Who Moved My Cheese" a couple of dozen times.

Not really. We were analysts that took calls directly from clients that usually didn't have a flipping clue what they were talking about, or it was the manager at a client site that was ready to blow a gasket because some no-talent lackey they paid $6.00 an hour to work FUBAR'ed the 1.5 million dollar accounting system they purchased. It was all about redirecting attention and getting them to realize that cussing me out and screaming at the top of their lungs wasn't going to get the problem fixed.

We also had a terrible problem with clients being indecisive on what the wanted done. Using little verbal cues and sort of directing their decisions was needed to get anything accomplished.

Brainwashing? Eh maybe a little. It's more like directing traffic.

Definitely makes me want to stay in acadameia. We have retreats... that's about the extent of the teambuilding.

They bought copies at my last job. I didn't read it. Unfortunately, during a new employee orientation at my new job, we had to watch the animated movie. :disgust:

I actually have two copies of that book, and I refuse to read either one of them.
