can anyone tell me whats the best way to transfer data from my iphone and Ipod directly to a new laptop? been googling the issue but all the software that i found are expensive and i was wondering if i can do this free since it's just a one time thing.
also, my ipod 5.5 80 gb has about 18gb of music and video's and my iphone 3g has about 6 gb worth of apps, music and video. my question is can both device co-exist in one itunes library? i'm sure it's been done, just want to know the pitfalls of doing this. obviously autosyncing is not recommended and i'll have to manually manage everything. any advise is appreciated. thanks.

Well, it's been quite some time since I needed to get files off an iPod, so I can't really answer that part of your question, but i can definitely answer the second part. Yes, an iPod and an iPhone can coexist in the same library. If you set specific playlists to sync to each one you can even have them autosync.

This is not exactly the same situation, but I imagine it would work for you:

Essentially it makes your iphone/ipod think that it's syncing to the same library. I just did this myself to sync my iphone between my desktop and laptop.

You could also look into just authorizing the the new computer for your iTunes account I think, but I'm not totally sure of the details involved. Good luck!
