Even with his plea deal! And now, his deal went bye-bye but . . . the Special Prosecutor's office said he can't revoke his guilty plea!

Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, repeatedly lied to federal investigators in breach of a plea agreement he signed two months ago, the special counsel’s office said in a court filing late on Monday.

Prosecutors working for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, said Mr. Manafort’s “crimes and lies” about “a variety of subject matters” relieve them of all promises they made to him in the plea agreement. But under the terms of the agreement, Mr. Manafort cannot withdraw his guilty plea.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

Defense lawyers disagreed that Mr. Manafort has violated the deal. In the same filing, they said that Mr. Manafort has met repeatedly with the special counsel’s office and “believes he has provided truthful information.”

But given the impasse between the two sides, they asked Judge Amy Berman Jackson of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to set a sentencing date for Mr. Manafort, who has been in solitary confinement in a detention center in Alexandria, Va., since June.

The wheelchair was a nice touch. So let's see... He's 69 and say he gets 30 years. That's life and sounds about right.

I figure his faith in a Trump pardon has been renewed... Win or lose, Trump can pardon him in November of 2020 with impunity.

Heck, I figure he'll make a show of it and do it either Christmas Eve or Day. Maybe New Year's.

It will be interesting to find out what Manafort is accused of lying about & the evidence they'll present to show that he is. Asking for a sentencing date indicates they are prepared to do so in a public way. The reveal will likely be problematical for Trump Co.

Even if Trump pardons Manafort, I look at it this way: every day Manafort experiences the hardship of prison is a plus. The guy has been obsessed with committing crimes to maintain a luxurious lifestyle. It's only fitting that he loses it all, even if it's just for a couple of years.

I'd rather he spill his guts & be released for time served.

He can pardon him tomorrow morning and the Republican base would become energized.

Ever since Whitaker became acting AG, it seems like witnesses have been getting the message to stop cooperating. George Papa running his mouth, Corsi running his mouth and rejecting a deal, Stone running his mouth...and now this.

Do they all think Mueller will be iced soon?

Even if he is canned, the rumor is that he already has a number of indictments sealed and those can not be cancelled if/when Meuller is axed.

and if they have state charges against them, trump can not pardon them.

Trump is the type guy who wouldn’t pull highway funds or snap benefits or other Federal monies from a State that jails Manafort after Trump pardons him.

I'm half suspicious that Manafort fed Trump's legal team info about the investigation that was used to complete the questions that Trump answered to Muller. In which case Trump has turned in answers replete with things Mueller knows, and can prove, to be lies.

Everything stupid and obscene can be taken as a possibility. Trump is off his nut again about Mueller and I expect things to get worse as Donnie's time runs out. That begins in one month and six days I hope.

Yes, he seems especially unhinged at the most recent turn of events. I can only presume whatever has happened isn't really good for him personally.

New reporting from the Guardian this morning: Manafort allegedly met with Assange in UK (Ecuadorian embassy) in March 2016. This might be one of those things Manafort is "lying" about.

Manafort held secret talks with Assange in Ecuadorian embassy

Exclusive: Trump ally met WikiLeaks founder months before emails hacked by Russia were published

Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort held secret talks with Julian Assange inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, and visited around the time he joined Trump’s campaign, the Guardian has been told.

Sources have said Manafort went to see Assange in 2013, 2015 and in spring 2016 – during the period when he was made a key figure in Trump’s push for the White House.

It is unclear why Manafort wanted to see Assange and what was discussed. But the last meeting is likely to come under scrutiny and could interest Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor who is investigating alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

A well-placed source has told the Guardian that Manafort went to see Assange around March 2016. Months later WikiLeaks released a stash of Democratic emails stolen by Russian intelligence officers.

Manafort, 69, denies involvement in the hack and says the claim is “100% false”. His lawyers declined to answer the Guardian’s questions about the visits.

You know I do have to admire Manafort's passion for crime. His dedication to doing more crimes than I thought one man capable of is truly something to behold. It's like looking at the works of a terrible yet insanely prolific painter.

If the Manafort-Assange story pans out there is a non-zero chance that both Manafort and Trump lied about it to investigators.

It's hard to imagine why Manafort would continue to lie after his plea deal unless he's counting on a pardon from Trump.

A pardon in exchange for Manafort passing on what he knows is the only rational explanation I can come up with. It appears, however, that Mueller saw this coming and laid a trap which Trump has just confidently sauntered into.

Habits can be hard to break, and hubris is a hell of a "drug," especially amongst the Dunning-Kruger types. ;)
