So in a completely not shocking twist, it turns out that this man only values freedom when it concerns his right to parade around with a large weapon in public. When Muslims want to open a place of worship? Not in my backyard. Because what good is defending the Constitution if you can't be a raging hypocrite about it?

....
The whole point is to normalize it to prevent over-reactions to other people who might legitimately need to carry their weapon.
....

I don't think it's "just because." I think they are attempting to normalize it so that authorities don't over-react in other, less controlled, situations.

Why the hell would you normalize the open carrying of a semi-automatic high capacity rifle into a fucking airport? The only reason you would bring a weapon into an area like that is SELF DEFENSE. Who the fuck is this guy going to be defending himself from, Aliens?

If he thinks he is protecting other americans, guess what, we don't need your help! Help your damn self first. That is why we get taxed up to our eyeballs for federal and local security. There is no way he could have the awareness and thoughtfulness to figure out who threats are, much less at a giant distance.

Chances are, his dumb ass is going to get iced first and then we have real criminals/terrorists with his weapon and gear. Great!

Except that an AR is a pistol, not a rifle.

Oh yeah? Please explain...

I would prefer something larger against aliens... documentaries like Independence Day and Battle for LA have shown that they can be tough little (or big) buggers. That being said, the 223 / 5.56x45 has been shown to be pretty effective against all forms of 2 legged vermin that inhabit our planet.

Also speak for yourself. I'd rather live in (and would feel safer in) a society where everyone was armed than a society where only the criminals and government were armed.

Don't worry, kaerflog said there are hundreds of cops there.

But right after he said it would be possible to shoot 200+ people before the cops would be able to stop the shooter.

So... Do the cops make it safer? I think so, or hope so.

I'd bet that he could easily shoot 200 people with an automatic version of that gun before someone took him out. All he'd have to do is aim it in the general direction of the TSA security lines on the day before a major holiday and hold down the trigger.

You've obviously never shot an automatic version of that weapon. Holding down the trigger with a beta c mag you'd probably dump 100 rounds in <10 seconds or so while putting the majority of those into the ceiling. It's also not incredibly easy to swap in a new 5 pound magazine (which is about what a full 100 round drum weighs). Actually you'd probably put 3 rounds into the line of people, 7 rounds into the ceiling, and then the drum would jam and the police would skull-****-you.

seeing as automatic firearms are incredibly difficult to purchase legally (and extraordinarily expensive), i doubt this guy would have a full auto version, unless he used a conversion kit (which is illegal).

Bullshit guys, I've been playing CS since Beta 3.1 and I can guarantee you I could take out all of those CT fucks before they could pull out their guns.

Just need the right keyboard so I can bunny hop.

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you should. Westboro Baptists have the right to protest soldiers' funerals; that doesn't make it a good fucking idea.
I say this every time I see someone's stupid kid.

Just because you had the right to impregnante someone (even yourself) doesn't mean you should. :p

bingo.

I'd imagine that someone smart enough to do a full auto conversion on an AR-15 would also be smart enough to install something like a muzzle break to deal with the recoil issues when firing it in full auto.

Yeah, anyone with a modest knowledge of firearms can modify a semi into an auto -- David Koresh was the son of god and he did it!

It would not be all the easy to keep an AK from climbing under full auto but an AR firing 55gn or 62gn bullets is something that can be done with a little practice -- even without a muzzle break -- easy enough with one, particularly with practice.

It's just a matter of time before an ISIS wanabe goes into an airport and hoses down a few dozen or more people before being taken out. Though I'd think the more likely location will either be a mall or a school.

Having idiots like this parade around an airport because he can will only serve to assist any terrorist looking to get his virgins. In fact, a terrorist could shoot this guy in the head with a handgun then use the guys nice AR and high capacity magazine to kill dozens.

Normalizing ... fucking insane!

have you shot an AR on full auto with/without a muzzle break? i haven't, but i can't imagine that it's a magic cure for recoil and muzzle rise.

here's the rub though - anyone, literally anyone, who is eligible to legally own a firearm could do this right now, and there's nothing short of a minority-report-style pre-crime unit that could stop it.

so either people need to be permanently fearful of a mass shooting/terrorist event, because anyone could do it at any time, or they need to accept that the vast majority of people are sane and prefer self preservation, so they won't, and the risk of such an event is infinitesimally small (i.e. you are more likely to get struck by lightning, killed in a car crash, etc).

also keep in mind the worst mass shooting was done with two pistols, not an AR or other semi-auto rifle. when shooter is the only person with a firearm, i would argue that the choice of firearm is unlikely to make a difference in terms of the potential for loss of life. i suspect more important is how quickly first responders are able to arrive.
