I understand "right to bear arms" I own a gun and keep it locked up at home. But walking around an airport with an AR to me just seems like bullying. Its not good.

One of the advantages of carry and conceal is that the other person doesn't know if you are armed or not. This is the type of guy that gets suckered punched and shot with his own gun.

GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A man practicing his open carry right was robbed of the gun he was openly carrying.

William Coleman III was robbed of his Walter- brand P22 just after 2:00 a.m. October 4 in Gresham by a young man who asked him for it — and flashed his own weapon as persuasion.

Coleman, 21, was talking to his cousin in the 17200 block of NE Glisan St., after purchasing the handgun earlier that day, when a young man asked him for a cigarette, police said.

The man then asked about the gun, pulled a gun from his own waistband and said “”I like your gun. Give it to me.”

Coleman handed over the gun and the man fled on foot.

The suspect is thin a black male, between 19 and 23 years old, clean cut with a small patch of facial hair on his chin, and short black wavy hair.

He is roughly six feet tall, wearing grey sweatpants, a white T-Shirt and flip-flop sandals.

The weapon he used in the robbery was described as a possibly semi-automatic, black gun, Gresham Police said.

And what if the American that was exercising his 2nd amendment rights was an ISIS leaning Muslim that, like the 9/11 hijackers, chose to appear non Muslim and went into an airport or mall and fire away.

Sooner or later this IS going to happen and this schmuck will have assisted the next terrorist.

As a gun owner it chaps my ass that idiots like this imperil my right to own firearms.

In Atlanta you can bring a fully loaded AR-15 (with drum magazine no less) into the airport but cannot carry a bottle of water past the TSA checkpoint.

Also the airport needs to ban guns so this doesn't happen.

The state just passed a bill to allow carry at the airport. There is a difference between practicing your rights and trying to incite panic. To me, this is like yelling "fire" in a movie theater.

Can you carry a gun in the state capital building?

Yea, they fuck with Chipotle, and Chipotle fucks right back. Posting legally sufficient no gun signs at all of their restaurants. Fucking A. Now I have to leave my gun in my car, which I hate doing.
No you don't. Concealed properly and no one knows you have it. I'd rather have it and not need it. I carry at the local movie theater that has a no gun policy.

Most places aren't posted properly anyway.

And, yes, the guy's dumb.

I believe if you have a license, you are allowed. I will say, the only gun violence that I see on the police blotters are the same old stuff that happened before the laws allowed carrying into more places. It's not like Georgia has turned into the wild west.

HB60 decriminalized the carrying of weapons into government buildings when the government building is open for business and where ingress into such building is not restricted or screened by security personnel. A license holder who enters or attempts to enter a government building carrying a weapon where ingress is restricted or screened by security personnel shall be guilty of a misdemeanor if at least one member of such security personnel is certified as a peace officer. However if a license holder immediately exits such building or immediately leaves such location upon notification of his or her failure to clear security due to the carrying of a weapon shall not be guilty of a misdemeanor. A person who is not a license holder and who attempts to enter a government building carrying a weapon shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Yeah, but you can thank this jackass when the airport becomes a "gun free" zone and some psychopath mass murderer takes advantage of that in the future.

Don't worry, kaerflog said there are hundreds of cops there.

But right after he said it would be possible to shoot 200+ people before the cops would be able to stop the shooter.

So... Do the cops make it safer? I think so, or hope so.

What a moron.
Well before moving there for several years (2008-2012), I visited my grandma in your fine city of San Diego in December of 1998. I spent a week there and actually saw a bit of snow on the north side (south of Carlsbad; no accumulation; just a few fat flakes on my shirt).

When it came time to leave, my uncle, who I had not seen since I was 4 years old in the US Virgin Islands, took me to the airport. I recently discovered that he was a huge gun nut (Yes: A gun nut living in San Diego). When we get to the place where your stuff is X-rayed on the conveyor and you pass through the wands and metal detector arches, he set down two guns, lifted his pant leg, and extracted a third. It was only then that I realized that he was making some kind of statement by bringing them. This was before 9-11 so people were allowed to accompany you to the gate and I don't think it was called a Security Checkpoint. Even so, I don't recall him accompanying me any further, probably because he couldn't take the guns through and had only done that to see how they reacted. That's probably why he was the one taking me to the airport.

I kept thinking "I didn't sign up for this!" but I proved that my Gameboy with Tetris DX worked and sailed right through. He didn't seem to have a confrontation or anything so the screeners must have handled it just fine.

Oh look there was a gun in the airport and no one got shot.

FWIW, I've openly carried a pistol a lot of places (including the airport) and never got a second look. I've never attempted to openly carry a long gun anywhere... because why would I want to carry a 12 lb fighting rifle with me in general public.

Police handled this well.

If terrorists can figure out how to hi-jack multiple commercial airliners they can figure out how to conceal a relatively short rifle like that AR-15 without anyone knowing they have it until the shooting begins. They are in an airport... people are expected to have large bags and crap with them (and my AR-15 is just slightly longer than a tennis racket). Instead of worrying about the stupid 2A "enthusiast" who makes youtube reaction videos of him carrying a long gun, worry about the people who are using guns to murder people. Hint: if you plan to murder a large group of people, don't go into a highly controlled building (like an airport) with the gun in plain sight and talk to a few cops first. Also, murder is already illegal. Making it illegal to carry a long (or any gun) into an airport isn't something a murderer / terrorist is going to consider before doing it.
