Man walking from California to New York

There was an article in the local paper about that guy.
I rode a bike across the country, but walking it is really hard-core. At least with a bike, you can almost always make it to the next town for food & water within a day. There are big chunks of the country though, that you'll be days between any significant civilization at a walking pace.

When I did my cross country tour there was a guy walking the same route - the transcon rumor mill & logs were all talking about him. Some small asian dude with a HUGE pack. He was barely moving when I passed him - just trudging along. It was in Kansas I think. I topped off a water bottle for him.

He hardly spoke any english. I wonder if he made it?

I hope he remembers to break in his new shoes before the old ones completely die, or he might end up with messed up feet.
It's always fun to be a couple of kilometers/miles from home and discover blood in your socks.

Wow, this is going to take forever. He left on April 10th and on the site it says that as of yesterday he has travelled approximately 514 miles. That's just less than 5 miles / day. Good luck to him though.

He started off @ 350 pounds, was sick, had some injuries
It says now that he's averaging 15 miles a day, which isn't to shabby.

WTF does/did he do that he can take a year off to waddle across America?

Seriously. I was planning on this some day if I ever cut back to part time and could take my family. Only it would be a straight shot west to east right over the Rockies.

I heard this and was all, wtf, just go to Subway. Last thing we need is another Jarod pimping Adidas.

What an ass - somebody decides to change their life and do something interesting and courageous, and you feel you have to mock him?

Let us know when you come up with the guts this guy has. :|

Sounds like something to do if I want to look emaciated by the end of the trip

Exactly, if he doesn't give himself sufficent calories and protein he will burn too much muscle tissue and end up ruining his metabolism
