So, earning respect is the way to live life. Got it.

Do I disrespect a religious leader until they've earned my respect? How about a civic leader?

i thought you were brighter then that. so you do not understand the difference between respect and disrespect?

Awww. How nice.

I'm actually waiting for guidance on the difference. It appears I've been respecting other FIRST then waiting for them to eff up and only then do I not show respect. Crazy, I know!

Are you playing stupid?

Seriously, no one is talking about being an asshat to anyone right off the bat. That is how one gets respected. What the point is is just because someone is Joe Military/Religion/Teacher/etc should not warrant respect if they are disrepectful.

This is the typical case of some idiot storming into a restaurant/shop making demands and backing them with "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!"...

perhaps thinking a bit and maybe sleeping on it.

All done sleeping now.

That last comment quoted would appear as if you disrespect people until they earn your respect. I guess I'm wrong.

I play the other side of the coin. People have my respect until the lose it by their own actions.

I have a feeling you are confusing courtesy and respect.

Bottom line, Dustin Diamond showed absolute disrespect to the man, if I were in the 1stSgt's shoes I would do the same as he did.

while i have a lot of respect for those in the military and for those that served.

Giving the guy a pass on how he acts just because he was milaary is not right. Respect is a 2 way street. Walden did started the threats and screaming. while that may work in the milaary that is not how people act in civilian life.[/quote]

Just got done watching the episode. I think if you saw the episode, you'd agree that Dustin had it coming, not that Harvey was dumb of reacting this way, but still.

The guy is beyond help...he is an example of one not to respect though no matter what his station/background is; he sucks the IQ out of those around him like a black hole. I am hoping he is still a teenager so there is hope for him.

To repeat what I said. People earn respect. I never said everyone has to earn MY respect first. If they are a stranger then yes...if they are not and I have heard/seen their accomplishments then no. However; no matter what someone has done in the past, they can lose respect at anytime.

I have a backbone and I have self-worth. There is nothing in this world that gives anyone the right to walk over another.

I can see you possibly kowtow quite a bit in real life though with the attitude you have presented.
