Father in Pakistan Kills His 4 Daughters
By Associated Press

MULTAN, Pakistan - A father, angry that his eldest daughter had married against his wishes, slit her throat as she slept and then killed three of his other daughters in a remote village in eastern Pakistan, police said Saturday.

Nazir Ahmad, a laborer in his 40s, feared the younger girls, aged 4, 8, and 12, would follow in their sister's footsteps, police officer Shahzad Gul said.

Ahmad surrendered to police after the killings late Friday in Burewala, about 70 miles east of Multan, a main city in eastern Punjab province, Gul said.

"He (Ahmad) told us today that he has killed his daughters, and we arrested him," he said.

Gul said the man's 25-year-old daughter, Muqadas Bibi, had married the man of her choice against her father's wishes some weeks ago. Ahmad contacted Bibi this week, saying he was ready to forgive her, Gul said.

During a visit by Bibi to her parents' house, Ahmad slit her throat as she slept and then killed the other three girls, Gul said. He said police were investigating whether other relatives helped in the killings and were also looking for Bibi's husband.

Gul said police are looking for Bibi's husband to inform him of her death.

Hundreds of women are killed in Pakistan every year, many by male relatives, after they are accused of staining their families' honor by having affairs or marrying for love without family consent.

Not that things just as bad don't happen in THIS counrty....

Explain to me again why we don't just seal that area of the world off and let them kill each other?

Oh yeah, we need their oil.

Ouch... glad my family's from the civilized portion of India. There, if someone married against their parent's will, the parents just disown them. I'm sorry but some people are just crazy no matter WHERE you are in the world.

Yes, but here they're usually done by mentally unbalanced crazies, not supposedly sane people who are still living with one foot in a 15th century culture.

(Not saying the country as a whole is that way, just the rural parts that need to move a few centuries forward)

I kind of wonder what goes on in a person's head before they do something like that. I mean, it seems like something as crazy as that - i.e. let's say stealing a ferrari and somehow ending up in a pursuit chase and a shootout must be the absolute single most incredible rush of any ones life. It seems like we all live within these boundaries that are controlled by law and those who step outside of it are truly the free thinkers.

I don't codone violence on little girls lol but just take a second to see where I'm coming from.

I've heard of cases in India where the villagers still force women in the burning corpse of their deceased husbands. I think the practice is called Sati or something.

I wonder what religion they were.

Quoting from a website...

What is Sati?
Ancient Hindu custom in India in which the widow was burnt to death on her husband?s pyre.
Can be a voluntary choice or force upon a woman by her in-laws.

Sati in the Modern times
In general, before this custom was outlawed in 1829, there were a few hundred officially recorded incidences each year.
The efforts of Raja Rammohan Roy and other Hindu reformers greatly impacted the movement to outlaw this practice.
Even after the custom was outlawed, this custom did not vanish completely. It took few decades before this custom almost vanished

Even in the year 2000, you hear about Sati occurring in rural villages.

Yeah, but in teh US, the crazies do crazy stuff because they are crazy, not because of their beliefs.

Yeah, that guy is obviously a perfectly normal, sane run of the mill citizen :disgust:

Take a guy like Charles Manson. Obviously crazy, but he too had his "beliefs" as well.

Yeah, things like that don't happen here... except for that lady who drowned her 5 children one by one, or the parents who kept their child chained to a bed in her own filth for 5+ years, or... etc. etc.

It's not the crimes that are different, it's just what sets the crazies off. Here it's psychology, there it's religion. The bottom line is that it's all in your head.

What does what he did have to do with his religion?

Show me one religion that allows him to do this.

Thanks.

This is obviously not because of his beliefs. If it had been, there really wouldn't have been a reason for him to kill his other daughters. It's obvious this guy has quite a few screws loose. Chances are that he would have done something similar to this had his daughter not married against his wishes. That event just set him off; there are probably dozens of other things that would have set him off as well.
