man.. store H&M.. someone explain now!

I've never heard of H&M until my friend took me to this brand new opening in Boston.

Supposedly H&M is VERY popular clothes chain in NYC, and it's slowly invading other states. So we went to downtown of Boston, around govt. center. I saw the plaze of H&M.. with a huge line of people waiting to go in (about 40~) I was totally surprised. A regular clothes store with this many people? They were waiting in a single line.. and a clerk admitted them one by one... it was a funny sight, like a club at night.. complete with a bouncer...

So we went in. The quality of clothes were awesome.. it was Banana and Gap-like. What's the difference you ask? Extremely Cheap

I bought this ribbed black sweatshirt that I thought would be $40-80 @ Gap, JCrew, Banana.. but it was $20!
I also got this tight black club-ware shirt that was made of this nice thick silky material.. for $5 :Q

Yes, you can always get clothes for $5-20 @ Kmart but these were quality clothes!

Why is it so cheap??? I asked one of the clerk who was checking me out, and he said, "mass production, and that's why we're so popular in NYC and it's coming to Mass area now"

Later on, the store had to be evacuated.. a fire alarm went off, I asked what happened, and they said "Too many people shopping at once.. we must re-admit to regulate"

Someone please confirm these following Qs:
1. Have you shopped @ H&M? or ever heard of it?
2. Is it really popular in NYC area?
3. Why is it SO CHEAP? I'm never going to GAP again (used to be my fav) Is it always this cheap or the Boston store was having a promotion because its grand opening?

H&M is mainly Euro trash styling...

There's some nice stuff there...think Calvin Klein / DKNY meets Oldnavy
Styles are nice...materials are usually second rate.

Don't expect to see any name brands there either. All house brands.

I went to the 5th Ave H&M this past Spring when the first opened. It was a mad house.
Great DJ though. Bought a light jacket.

I still have not found any place that can beet the quality, name brand selection, and price of
Blue Fly though. They are number 1.
