Man Allegedly Steals Boy's Socks, Runs Off
Suspect Jailed In Columbus
A man accused of attempting to steal socks from an 11-year-old boy appeared in court Tuesday morning, Columbus TV station WCMH reported.
Maurice Teague (pictured, left) was arraigned in a Franklin County court on kidnapping and robbery charges.
Police said Teague attempted to kidnap the boy from the Kroger at 1630 Morse Rd.
The boy told police he was returning home from a store when Teague approached him and asked if he could buy his socks for $5. When the boy said no, Teague offered $10.
When the boy declined again, Teague allegedly picked him up and ran to the rear of the store, where he pulled off the boy's shoes and socks and fled with the socks.
Investigators said the boy threw a stick at Teague to escape.
Teague admitted to police he has more than 500 pairs of boys socks at his home.
The judge ordered Teague to stay away from all juveniles and has scheduled a preliminary hearing next week.
Bond was set at $75,000.
