I wouldn't want to take care of him either.

If he had continued to care for him until he turned 18, would he have had any legal obligation to care for him after that point?

note: I would not have starved him, I would have tried to put him in a 24 care place or something, so don't jump all over me.

24 hour care is EXTREMELY expensive, anyone who would think to starve their child to death likely could not afford 24 hour care.

I'm not sure how parental responsibility works under circumstances like this.

As for not wanting to care for it, I won't even address that.

Jonathan was found in his father's Royal Oak apartment after neighbors complained of a foul odor coming from the home. Once investigators entered the apartment, Beard led them to Jonathan's body, which consisted mostly of skeletal remains. Investigators estimate the teen had been dead for between three to six weeks.

This guy has GOT to have mental problems.

That was my thought as well when reading it. Even the stupidest, most backwards ass trailer trash wouldn't pull something like this and then leave the body around to decompose.

he should have just given him up for adoption, then at least the state would have taken care of him.

How many people do you think would have wanted to adopt a mentally retarded 17 year old who was incapable of feeding himself?

I think quite a few people may want to....I know a husband and wife that are retired and their own kid are grown up. They adopted two very mentally handicapped girls. One is 21 or so the other is about the same. The reason why they adopted them is because of the money they get from the government. In general, they are nice to the girls, they treat them fine, but they don't really love them. I think it is horrible actually. They need to be watched constantly. Both wear diapers and need to be fed. But that just shows you people will adopt them.

Its cool to have an infant dependent upon you for all their needs...its not so cool when that infant is 17 years old! While I cannot defend what the man did, neither will I judge him because have I never had to care for someone 24/7 for the rest of their natural life, either, which must be a monumental burden emotionally, physically, and financially of the likes I hope I'll never know. The fact that the guy let the remains decompose in his house for several weeks suggests this guy may not be all that mentally competent.

I'm not sure the open murder charges will stick since simply doing nothing cannot reasonably be construed to be murder.

I don't understand why people post stuff like this on this message board. We ALL know that there are i'll people out there and bad things happen, but why do you need to post it here? What does it accomplish? It just serves to upset people. Posting just to get a rise out of people is lame.

Anti-abortion my ass. I'm pro-choice. I just hate double standards.

If the fetus is a parasite on the mother, then this kid is a parasite on the father. Both should have the ability to remove something utterly dependant on them if they want.
