SABRE SPRINGS ? A man who stood up in a convertible was blown out of the car and killed when another car ran over him on Interstate 15 last night, authorities said.

The driver of the convertible, a T-top sports car, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The second driver was not held at fault.

The accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. as the convertible was northbound at 65 to 70 mph. The passenger, believed to be in his 30s, unbuckled his seat belt and stood up to take off his shirt, the CHP said.

The man stuck his upper body out of the open T-top roof and the wind blew him backward out of the car. He hit the pavement and was run over by another car south of Ted Williams Parkway.

Both drivers pulled over. People who stopped to help pulled the man out of freeway lanes. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

San Diego police and the CHP closed three right freeway lanes during an investigation until about 9:15 p.m.

Uhhh....is it really that hard to take your shirt off sitting down with your seatbelt off?

Better question would be why was he taking his shirt off at all? Two guys, in a convertible, probably both drunk, why would one want to take off his shir.....oh wait, now I know.

Why, when I read T-Tops, do I think of a late 80s Firebird with a bad paint job of the Firebird logo on the hood?

We'll thank god he didnt land on any ones wind shield.

This kind of reminds me of the story of the 80 year-old driver who drove wihout noticing the dead body in his windshield for hours.

i thought more of a mid 90's camaro with a guy with a mullet.

because of the technicality that he was drunk, I think the woman that pulled over in traffic to check her tire pressure is my top candidate

this story doesn't make much sense as told. Unless the person is really light, I don't think just standing up would make him blow out of the car, at 70 mph.

maybe his shirt caught the wind, or he just fell out..

Unless you're holding onto something, or something is bracing you, 70MPH on a moving object is not stable.

Drag goes up exponentially with speed. Unfortunately for the gene pool, this will probably just lead to laws banning convertibles or something

How could we figure this out, scientifically ? I guess we could measure the force applied by a 70mph wind to the upper part of a body, measured in PSI, and then compare that to the force of gravity holding him in place ?

how about you stand up in my convertible and see if you fall? Scientific enough?

If you saw me you'd know that 70mph isn't going to be fast enough..

The driver of the convertible, a T-top sports car

So, which is it: A T-Top or a convertible?
And I agree that the first thing I thought of was a Joe Dirt clone getting blown out of his 80's Firebird (red with a black & gold hood decal FTW!).
