Man sometimes i just get so fed up with the media!

Man, i swear the media sucks sometimes. They just want to make news along with report it. Sometimes i think they rather just make the news. Like just a few mins ago when Ashcroft(i think, maybe someone else) was showing the film of the 5 terrorist. Then the media asked something like is it good to release this and do you think it will scare people. I mean what the heck. First the media wants to know every little detail about everything. Then they complain that it might scare people. Man if i was a goverment representive. I would just flat out on asked,"do you guys what to know or not. Make up your minds. You guys complain that we don't give you infomation, then you complain we give to much or critisize(sp?) us for giving info." The media is the biggest bunch of hipocrites.

First off, it would help if you clarified exactly what they said. I've been watching CNN but didnt hear that question.

Second, just because they ask a question to that effect doesnt mean they are complaining. They simply want the gov't's reaction to the question.

Notice how one week they'll be proclaiming the benefits of salt in a persons diet, and then next week they make a big fuss about the relation between large salt intake and illness.

The media really doesn't make sense anymore. Sometimes I wonder whether they're a bunch of alien drones, bent on overtaking earth. Then I take a look at their weathered smiles and sharp piercing eyes, and am convinced that they are.

Of those two, Fox is more neutral. NewsMax is definitely conservatively biased, which I find is a good counterbalance to CNN, ABC, etc.

the problem I have with fox is that they seem to mix their commentary and their "news". Yes, they put "commentary", but its like you'll be watching "news" on a politically controversial subject and then all of a sudden oreilly will start spewing his opinion...at times there seems like there is no seperation between fact and opinion on that channel.

I find the mixing of opinion and news to be universal. That's why I want to know the bias of the reporting entity when I read/listen/watch their programming. Example: Two conservative news magazines. National Review and The New American. I'm conservative too, so no problem right? Wrong. National Review is pro-Catholic biased. The New American is anti-U.N./New World Order biased.

Now I may or may not have those biases myself. The important thing is to know *which* biases affect the information you are receiving. ALL media is biased. I called FoxNews neutral. I should have called it moderate biased.

edit: Also, it bothers me that the biggest national media outlets are ASTONISHED and in DENIAL when individuals and organizations accuse them of liberal bias. Because (and this is straight out of my wife's Journalism/Broadcasting 101 textbook) they pride themselves on being unbiased. Therefore they're not biased. And The New York Times is the BEST unbiased newspaper on earth. :| I am not exaggerating in the least. I read that "textbook" passage with my own eyes.

I guess my position is that the person who reports the news to you should be giving explicit opinions on-air. Fox is the only channel where I have seen a news anchor alternate between simply reporting news and giving their opinion on it. When their afghan correspondent (it was geraldo, right?) was reporting from the field, he'd be saying (example) "Today more 52's pounded the caves where these murderous bastard cowards are hiding. The plan is to keep bombing them until all of this scum is dead."

Now, it may be true, but its not proper for a reporter to be saying that. In a similar sense, I think that should be applied to their achors like oreilly.

But if they're blatant (like Riviera) about their opinion, it's hardly going to be mistaken as fact. (I'm being devil's advocate, BTW. I mostly agree with you). A common mistake of media critics is to assume that the general population will be affected by some action of the media (like sprinkling or spewing opinion throughout the report) when the action in question had no affect on the critic.

We give ourselves a lot of credit in ferreting out bias (or ignoring violence and sex in the media, or whatever) while assuming it has quite an impact on the masses. Which presumably don't have our special skills.

The problem with Fox News is they have no problem just making the news up. You haven't forgotten Geraldo Rivera's trip to the friendly fire location last week, have you?

By not fireing Geraldo or issuing a retraction, the comany is not better than the employee.

The problem with NewsMax is they rarely even pretend to report "news."
