So my wife posted a couple of her lesson plans for the language she teaches on Teachers Pay Teachers. Basically that's a site where a teacher can upload curriculum, lessons etc and other teachers, if they think it would be useful, can buy them. So she offers her lesson plan as a PowerPoint with full edit rights to do whatever you want with it for a whopping $2. Last night she got a negative review and an email demand for a refund. Why? There was one minor spelling mistake and one minor grammar mistake. I wouldn't even go after an EvilCorp for $2 let alone a fellow educator (who has no editor, collaborator, sales team etc) for something you could easily fix in the editable document you were given. It's $2 dollars. Come on.

She needs to add "No Refunds" to her ad listing. People are fucking morons.

That's ridiculous. Could she reply with "I received your refund request. May I suggest that in lieu of the $2, I show you how you could correct the two errors you found? As an educator, you will find that ability much more valuable than the $2 would be."

She replied noting that that was why she included the fully editable PowerPoint - people could make whatever changes they wanted. The reply was "I don't have time for that". So the woman has now spent more time complaining about the issues than it would have taken to fix the issues - which she supposedly doesn't have time to do

To be fair, if she's teaching language she shouldn't have any spelling or grammatical errors, especially if she is also selling it.

it is a site where teachers are helping each other out...

If it were a public site where anyone could buy it, I would agree with you...it would probably cost more than $2 though...

The customer can just fix it. I might roll my eyes, and think judgmental thoughts, but I'd correct it myself, and wouldn't say a thing. I'd assume I'd be tweaking anything I bought of that nature anyway. All the "pros" that make >0 mistakes on their insanely expensive educational materials are backed by a team that goes over everything before it hits the shelf. If you find a mistake, you're free to buy the second edition when it comes out in a couple years.

I'm getting pissed just thinking about this. I think I might just tell them to go fuck themselves if they're too lazy to put in the trivial work to correct trivial errors.

That's like demanding a refund over errors in a textbook. Just live with the errata (in this case, correct it) and move on.

Yea, lots of jerks are people too. Some jerks are not people.

We have 2 kittens who are jerks. They climb on top of the counters and knock all the things the wife forgets to put away on the floor.
Then, they climb on top of my desk and knock things to the floor.

I am sorry that the jerks who are people ruined the day for your wife.

The biggest assholes in life are ones like this where they feel their time to login and send an email is more valuable than hitting 2 keystrokes to fix it. Seriously, it takes a special kind of asshole to have this kind of thought process in your brain.

Got that shit all the time in the consulting world where I send someone a powerpoint deck for presentations to clients or internal training and they want to add a couple words here or there - or move an image to the other side, etc...

It literally took you more time to type out what you want me to change than to simply do the change yourself.

Who was the 'owner' of the document? If they were the only owner/recipient, then I would agree with you...when multiple people have multi versions of a slide deck, it can get confusing...was it for a status meeting or a formal presentation might make another difference also

I guess the "owner" is likely the Partner / Principal / Director or their subordinate Senior Manager that was likely to present it to the client. So in that regard, I would call it a formal presentation - but I've also experienced this with status meeting presentations as well.

Believe me this wasn't the kind of thing where 5 people are all trying to edit the same file or anything.

Give the refund and then state that the person will be monitored and if they use any component of the offered product they will be assessed a $20K fee.

100% of the teachers I have know were off a little in the head.
