Please tell me this was a ricochet. I really don't want to hear that he was dumb enough to stand in front of the bullet.

An employee of an Albany scrap metal company told The Post-Star of Glens Falls that the business pays $1.70 a pound for scrap brass shell casings.

Cleveland said Mosher's shells amounted to just a few pounds.

Something tells me that what he went through probably wasn't worth it...

BTW, love how CNN linked the story...whacking...bullets :D

It was unclear if the bullet ricocheted or hit him directly.

the bullets were in a vice, im sure it was a ricochet. i cant see even the best darwin candidate putting bullets in a vice sideways to hit them and clear the casing. vices tend to have sloped bases as well, so that would make sense to me. what would make more sense is to NOT hit bullets with a hammer just for the casing.

He'll have to empty a whole LOT of shell casings to pay his medical bills now!

This reminds me of an older movie where two kids were playing with bullets in a vice. I think it was set in war torn europe. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm impressed that it managed to get enough velocity to penetrate.

Without a gun around them I would have expected the casing to just rupture.

i am a firm believer in human stupidity...i bet he will be back whacking bullets before he is even fully healed from his wound...

he will now probably wear a pillow ducktapped to his stomach and a pair of goggles....just to be on the safe side....

My brother put shrapnel into his hand doing something similar. When he was ten years old he found a 22 bullet. He tried to set it off by setting it on the concrete porch and hitting it with a hammer. It worked. ;)
