yes. both should be charged with child neglect and child abuse at the minimum.

is being a moron a crime? nope. but putting a child in a freezer is (or should be at least heh).

if he gets jail time it wouldnt bother me a bit.

If a man mows down 50 people in a market because he never learned how to use the brakes on his new car, does he just get a slap on the wrist and a driver's ed course?

"No, professor, you're not listening. I failed the test because I was ignorant of the material! I don't hate you! I just didn't know what I was doing. Can't I get a passing grade?"
"Oh certainly, I'm sorry, I didn't know. Is a B+ high enough?"

This guy's one sign of intelligence:
"He then carried the girl outside into the night air but, frustrated that this also did not work and worried she might drown if placed in a cold bath, he put the baby into the kitchen freezer."
I guess he's been in water, but he's never experienced this "cold" thing before, nor any of its harmful effects.
I wonder what he's like taking care of himself? Is he able to eat sharp things like potato chips without injuring himself?

The mother must be a real moron too to not only want a second date with this guy, but to actually want to have sex with him.
"No darling, it goes in here. Yes, in. No, not like that. No, not there. Ok, good. No, that's not all, now do it again. And again...*sigh* again, god you're a moron."

I am sick of society excusing people from responsibility. The guy put a human being in the freezer! Of course it is a case of monumental stupidity, but stupidity is not an excuse.

Hardy, 21, who admitted to police that he had no real parenting skills to deal with a sick child

It doesn't require much "skill" to know not to put a kid in the freaking freezer.
We should be glad that the kid wasn't freezing, he might have put her in the oven.

It just seems to me like the guy was genuinely trying to help the baby. He did not ignore it, he tried to help it. His first attempt did not work, he ruled out another possibility, and his third attempt is what did him in. I think he panicked, because if he was thinking clearly he would have called his parents and asked them what to do. The article implies that he wasn't at the freezer door when the girlfriend came home (he says the door was open, she says the door was closed). THAT is definitely negligent, and he deserves to be punished for that. But I don't see the value of putting this guy in prison. He's not going to go around putting more babies in freezer. Supervised community service would be a more fitting punishment.

I'm completely dumbfounded how people do stupid things like sticking their baby in the freezer or the microwave. Not only that, I feel terrible for the kids since I have a couple under-2yo of my own. Sure, they have tantrums and can get on your nerves especially at 3am. Call someone, leave the kids in a safe place, and go to a different room to cool off. (no pun intended)

Not this PC bs again. All the law can realistically deal with are actions. I don't care what you think, I only care what you do. That said, the law may interpret this differentely. If you accidentally run down a pedestrian in a car (they are in a crosswalk), are you at fault? It's very hard to prove intent, and honestly, if you are driving that recklessly, I don't care if you intented to run him down or not....
(/rant)

PC bs??? Do you know what the hell PC is? There are plenty of other reasons out there to call PC bs on, but I am having a very hard time relating it to anything mugs said. I don't know, maybe I'm just dumb.

If your post isn't as harsh as possible toward a person or organization (this man, MADD, black people, PETA, Greenpeace, fat people), it's PC.

There should be two versions of a crime: The intentional version, and the moron version. This guy should get charged with the moron version.

To be fair, there might not have been anything in the freezer manual stating that it was not suitable for cooling babies.

I suspect he has a case against the manufacturer.

Prehaps a restraining order preventing him from coming in close contact with anyone that can not physically beat his ass when he is doing stupid shiite.
