Did anyone else expect him to have some explosive hidden somewhere on/in his person at the end, so he could ensure the kid and her family would be safe by destroying the bad people/self sacrafice?

I did, and I was bummed he didnt... it was just luck that they were taken care of by the police before they could get revenge on the family.

I was expecting to see the car go up in flames. Oh well. Still a damn good movie though.

By then he had proven his point and the exchange was little more than a business transaction between professionals.

Great movie though. Creasy did what you always hope the hero will do. Simple brutal violence against the bad guys. No speeches. No monologues... Just tell me what you know... Done? kthanxbye.

All he wanted was Pita back. He got that. I thought the ending was quite appropriate. He wasn't a mindless killer or something--he did everything with a purpose.

Well, the scene where he shoved some C4 up the fat dude's ass and blew it up was pretty entertaining.

i think he knew he was dying.... and it was a redemption for who he was...it was prefaced by the a-hole that agreed to trade a life for a life....

he was injured...going on pure mean adrenalin...it WAS an apporpriate ending...and an awesome movie...was overlooked to much...

I thought that too, I was waiting for them to take him to the Voice and then he would have a bomb go off to kill 'em all. I think I remember hearing that Denzel made them change the end of the movie to what it ended up being. Anyways...great f'n movie.

One of my all-time favs!

He accomplished the mission which was getting the girl back. He might have killed the entire family and everyone that knew the family .... Recall that he stopped his crusade to kill all when he discovered Peta was alive. Otherwise, he was on pace to eradicate everyone.

That might have been a different ending.

Wasn't this based on a true story?

I thought the ending was good, it gave the movie even more class, as opposed to just ending with lots of big explosions and cheers from the audience.

Awesome movie, no doubt.

Interesting trivia point (from the wiki page):

"Among the actors offered the role of Creasy before Denzel Washington included Robert De Niro, Bruce Willis and Will Smith. "

I think Denzel played the role really well, glad none of the other actors mentioned ended up with it (not that I think they're bad actors, but Denzel did an awesome job).
