I don't think this is quite the right place to talk about Macs. No one really likes them around here or atleast admits to it. There are a few, don't get me wrong but, mostly you'll just get hostility. I don't care for macs personaly but to each his own. GL with it.

You might try the SFF/Notebooks/etc. forum. People over there love the darn things... (For a sample, look up the "Apple Powerbook?" thread.) Also, a lot of new users who probably have a lot of good hints...

I have to agree though. I wouldn't sell my PC. Mind you, I'd LOVE to have a Powerbook, but I wouldn't give up my PC for one.

I wouldn't sell my PC, but I LOVE my powerbook and iPod. I hate all the apple smashers out there, they really do make some great products. Enjoy your new toys.

He hasn't said what kind of PC it is. Maybe he should sell it :) I would love to have a Mac, but personally, I wouldn't give up my PC for one. Mostly I just with they'd port OS X to x86. Then I'd give Windows the boot!

I think you just made a big mistake. Have fun playing that stupid apple puzzle game for entertainment.

This really isn't a bad place, like the others have said the Notebook forum is fairly calm. People like me, Eug, and GL also tend to float around, although the way threads get burried, it's difficult to find ones like these.

Anyhow, what specific questions do you have about the iBook?

Floppies are dead, long live UMSDs and [CD|DVD]s! Appleworks isn't quite as full fledged as Microsoft Office, but it will do everything you want it to if you just a student. If you need rights protection and advanced track changes, editing tooks, and compatibility for Office users, you can always get Office for the Mac.

If your old computer is really old, then scrap it. Otherwise, I'd suggest keeping it as either a memento or as a thing to use in case you need to.

or sell your pc and buy virtual PC. Ya, emulation slow.. etc but it's make by MS so should work very good on Windows based game etc..

AppleWorks is not suffcient; get Office any way you can. As for floppies, you're done. If you're smart, get a USB pen drive, otherwise you can do CD burns and network transfers.

As said above, floppies arent necessary any more.

Try openoffice.org. They are getting better at being a free office suite. MS Office is still the best but for basic word processing appleworks will work just fine. It does have an option to save as a word doc or other formats for compatibility. It has not been updated in quite awhile and is functional but mediocre at best.

Virtual Pc is still slow.
